NetPeek is a useful networking tool that allows you to scan and retrieve useful information from devices or hosts on your network. Besides, you can initiate FTP, telnet, or web connections and, if the Windows Messaging service is enabled, send messages to those devices.
Among its advantages, the application lets you scan a single or multiple devices in two different ways: by specifying a range of IPs or by opening a file containing a list of devices, which is more interesting because it gives you the option to include not only IP addresses, but also DNS entries or WINS names.
Scanning a device gives you the advantage of identifying its type and obtaining useful information about it: host name, IP address, ping response, ethernet address, network interface type, host type, open TCP ports, web server, FTP server, WINS name, Windows workgroup, current user, and WINS comment - depending on the device's type. Once this information is obtained, you can print it or copy it to clipboard. If you are a command-line user, you can execute a command to scan devices from a list and log results.
In the preferences window you can adjust the maximum number of hosts, ping attempts, and ping time outs, as well as enable Microsoft Networking scans, check FTP or web services, and more.
To conclude, I can say that the program is perfect for identifying or detecting the devices on your network, but not for keeping track of their connectivity. Still, its price is not excessive for what it does.
